WHY USE eBIKE

An E-bike features an electric motor that is powered by a rechargeable battery. The most popular system in Australia is the pedelec (or pedal assist) system. You ride a pedelec E-bike by pedalling as normal, but the electric motor adds power to each pedal stroke - flattening out the hills and getting you up to speed with much less effort.

E-bikes make it easier to ride further and more often. You can go longer distances, get there faster, easily carry more luggage and arrive in better shape when doing it! You still get an exercise benefit and the simple joy of being on a bike, but the experience is less taxing and something you’ll want to repeat daily.

E-bikes are the fastest growing category of bicycle in the world and have seen a ten-fold increase in Europe over the past six years. Much of this growth has come from increased awareness but also improvements in performance, handling and aesthetics driven by advances in battery technology.

Australia has always been behind on these advances as we couldn’t import from the key markets driving developments in electric bikes. In May 2012 however, the Australian government adopted European rule for permitted power output of electric bikes from 200 to 250 watts. With the adoption of this common standard we are at last now seeing the better international systems become available here in Australia.
